Wait! A Civilian Leading This Hike? Here’s Why That’s a Good Thing.
It’s true – I’m a civilian, and I’m leading both the Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hikes in Worcester and Milford. My wife, Val, and I first joined Irreverent Warriors as volunteers in Boston back in 2017, and it didn’t take long to realize that something special was happening here. Since then, we’ve had the honor of supporting hikes in Boston, Milford, Connecticut, DC, and New York. We’ve even survived a tropical storm hike in Savannah, GA.
Every event has left me more inspired by the connections formed, the laughter, the support, and the powerful mission we’re fulfilling together. In 2023, when the time came for a new hike leader to step up, I was truly humbled to be chosen by the local community to carry our mission forward.
While it may seem unconventional for a civilian to lead, I’m all in because I’m passionate about this cause. I’ve seen firsthand how Irreverent Warriors impacts lives and brings hope. I’ve promised our community that I will do whatever it takes to provide a space for healing, camaraderie, and brighter days ahead.
I’m honored to serve as the local coordinator for both Worcester and Milford, MA, and proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with veterans and supporters alike to keep this mission strong.
