I first learned about Irreverent Warriors while watching VetTV, where Danny Maher discussed being one of the group’s co-founders. My younger brother, Teddy, was a veteran who took his own life on May 21, 2022. Over the years, I have lost other battle buddies to veteran suicide, including SFC Andrew McCaffery, Lee Pete Henderson, SGT Johnathan Kidwell, and SPC Kellum. Witnessing these losses and dealing with the grief and pain that comes along with it caused me to stand up and take a leadership role to help other veterans like myself feel they have a purpose and meaning and that someone cares about them. This inspired me to bring Irreverent Warriors to my state to provide a positive outlet and create lasting connections.
In February of 2024, I successfully brought Irreverent Warriors to Maine, where the organization was previously absent. Irreverent Warriors comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, age groups, and service periods. Despite our differences, we all share the experience of grief and the pain caused by the suicides of our loved ones. Joining Irreverent Warriors has allowed us to find solace and support in each other’s company.
